Sam (Tom Hanks) is a young widower who is looking for a new life partner. His son Jonah (Ross Malinger) who calls the radio one day, tells his father's story and informs the audience that he would like a new mother. In response, hundreds of women begin sending letters to Sam. Among them is Annie (Meg Ryan), an engaged girl who decides to get to know Sam better.

Christmas is the time when anything can happen. And that to everyone, also a journalist standing firmly on the ground - Annie Reed (Meg Ryan). Here, while driving a car on Christmas Eve to her fiancée's house and listening to the radio, Annie accidentally comes across a broadcast that will change her life. Eight-year-old Jonah (Ross Malinger) is worried about his recently widowed father and desperately calls the radio station for help. Forced to confide in the boy's dad, Sam (Tom Hanks), he talks on the air about his love for his deceased wife and the wonderful times he spent with her. Annie is so touched by Sam's emotional confessions that she decides to find him and get to know him. But there are a few obstacles: Sam lives in Seattle, Annie is in Baltimore ... and Sam doesn't even know she exists!
