A drama directed by Kornéla Mundruczów
Production Canada / USA / Hungary
Martha (Vanessa Kirby) and Sean (Shia LaBeouf) are an expectant Boston couple whose lives change irreversibly when a home birth ends in an unimaginable tragedy. For Martha, this marks the beginning of a year-long ordeal, during which she must deal with her grief and find herself in a tense relationship with her husband and overbearing mother (Ellen Burstyn). She is also facing a court clash with a midwife hated by the public (Molly Parker). "Particles of a Woman" is a very personal, penetrating and poignant story about a woman who learns to live with the pain of loss.
This is not an artistic monolith, but the film tugs so hard and qualitatively that I did not sleep until morning.
For the first time, I liked this director's film.
