Record profits of CD Projekt RED for 2020. Cyberpunk 2077 a success after all? The company's new strategy.

Despite the opposition to Cyberpunk 2077 last year, it does not appear to have had much impact on CD Projekt RED's financial results. Just a studio today posted projected earnings for 2020 and they are the highest since 2015. These record profits of CD Projekt RED may prove the studio's strategy for the future.

Currently, CD Project Red's revenue forecasts for this year leave at the level of approximately PLN 2,139 million (Polish currency), and the net profit is PLN 1,154 million. As there is no information about 2021 in this forecast, it remains to be seen how the fate of the studio will unfold in the future.

Despite how excited Cyberpunk 2077 was, the game turned out to be a disappointment for many due to the high number of bugs and fairly poor narrative. While it is likely to get much better in the future, only time will tell how many people are willing to give this game another chance.

Either way, CD Projekt RED's profits for 2020 are twice as high as the forecasts for 2015, when it was released The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt . This year's estimates did not even exceed PLN 1,000 million, while, as mentioned earlier, revenues in 2020 are expected to amount to approximately PLN 2,100 million.

CD Projekt RED recently announced that in the future the studio plans to start developing many different Triple-A games and downloadable content at the same time. In addition, promotional content would no longer have years of downtime between them, and promotional materials would not be released until around the game's release date.

This strategy is likely to help keep the hype under control, but it doesn't really predict how CD Projekt RED might go in the next few years. While The Witcher 3 maintained strong post-release sales, backed up every now and then by the Nintendo Switch port and the Netflix series release, Cyberpunk doesn't have such a safety net.

CD Projekt RED's earnings over the next year are likely to depend on how fast can fix Cyberpunk 2077 in a playable state that will please fans, so who knows how the company's fortunes will change until then next year.
