Cindy Campbell deals with helping people after the death of her husband George. She is hired to look after Mrs. Norris - an old woman suffering from catatonia. He soon discovers that a ghost of a little Japanese boy haunts the house. Her neighbor is Tom Ryan, a divorced hunk who immediately caught Cindy's eye as well as him. Meanwhile, the world is attacked by enormous TriPods, seeking the destruction of humanity. Cindy discovers that the solution to a mysterious alien plague can be found in a settlement isolated from civilization. Together with her friend Brenda, who surprisingly lives, they try to save humanity.
